Active Iron
We made iron better

Before Active Iron, the iron supplement market was dominated by poorly absorbed and poorly tolerated iron products. Evidence suggests around 80-90% of those who take traditional oral iron supplements report negative gastro-intestinal side-effects.*

Active Iron’s Kind and Strong formula – kind enough to take on an empty stomach but with strong absorption when you need it – was developed in response to this global need for an iron solution that is both tolerable and easy to absorb.

This new technology, developed by Solvotrin Therapeutics together with scientists at Trinity College Dublin, uses a unique iron-whey protein complex which is clinically proven to provide better iron absorption than the market leading, gold standard iron sulfate.

Unlike conventional iron supplements, Active Iron targets the DMT-1, which is the body’s normal iron gateway. Active Iron’s protein formula helps reduce irritation from iron, meaning it’s kind enough to take on an empty stomach, Active Iron targets your body’s normal “iron absorber”, called the DMT-1. This means that it is strong on absorption and in tune with your body’s needs.

By targeting the natural site of absorption – the small intestine rather than the stomach or lower intestine – Active Iron doubles the amount of iron absorbed compared to iron sulfate, making more iron available to your body. Active Iron’s ground-breaking formula reduces irritation from Iron, meaning there is less unabsorbed iron in the stomach; reducing gastric side-effects compared to other oral iron products.

Research confirms the new Active Iron formulation is so gentle on the gastric system it can be taken on an empty stomach. This may help people who need to supplement their diet with iron products but struggle with negative side effects associated with traditional products such as stomach pain, cramp, sickness, constipation and flatulence.

Active Iron uses denatured whey-protein and encapsulated ferrous sulphate, which means that it is suitable for vegetarians. Although a vegetarian diet is typically high in iron-rich foods, plant-based (non-heme) sources of iron are often poorly absorbed in the diet. Active Iron can help support their dietary needs of Iron.

The supplement is also free from sugar, wheat, gluten and preservatives. As Active Iron works in tune with your body, delivering just the right amount of iron when you need it – effects – it is suitable for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. It is suitable for vegetarians, women with periods, active exercisers and for anyone above the age of 12 who may need to supplement their iron intake.

However, iron supplements are not a substitute for a healthy and balanced diet. You should not exceed the recommended daily supplement dose of iron without consulting your doctor or pharmacist.
